	This fully-staged family musical is based on the beloved children's book and includes a magical locked garden, a strolling chorus of ghosts, and some of the most beautiful music ever written for Broadway. There are many wonderful roles available for performers of all ages. It is 1911 and Mary Lennox, a young English girl born and raised in India , is orphaned by a cholera outbreak. She is sent away to England to live with relatives whom she has never met. Her own personality blossoms as she and a young gardener bring new life to a neglected garden, as well as to her sickly cousin and uncle. INFORMATION and REQUIREMENTS: 1. Please enter thru the double doors and come to the 3rd floor. 2. Bio and conflict information sheets will be provided. 3. Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in. 4. Be prepared to sing a song that best represents your voice (16-24 bars of music) and bring sheet music for the accompanist with those 16-24 bars of music marked. If you do not have sheet music, we will have you sing something simple like "Happy Birthday" or "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." 5. No monologues necessary (although you may perform one if you choose). Performers will be asked to read from the script and may be asked to do a short movement combination. 6. ROLES AVAILABLE: Archibald Craven: (30s-40s, high baritone/tenor) Mary's wealthy uncle, reclusive, cheerless, distraught and haunted by the death of his wife. He is also physically hunched. Mary Lennox: (Must be able to play 10-14, alto/mezzo) Transitions from petulant and surly to warm and nurturing. The heart and centerpiece of the show. Must be able to carry off demanding vocals and emotional content. Dr. Neville Craven: (30's-40's, baritone) Archibald's younger brother, secretive, jealous, dour. Lily: (25-35, soprano from middle C to high C) Archibald's dead wife, sweet, tender, loving. Martha: (18-30, mezzo/alto belt) Mary's chambermaid, spunky, high spirited, overwhelmingly optimistic. Yorkshire dialect. Dickon: (16-30, tenor) Martha's brother, mischievous, mystical, and "old soul." Yorkshire dialect. Ben Weatherstaff: (40+, baritone) Head gardener, gruff yet kind. Yorkshire dialect. Colin Craven: (Must be able to play 10-12, boy soprano to E) Archibald's bedridden son, spoiled, isolated. Mrs. Medlock: (30+, non-singing) Housekeeper, stern and serious, but not unkind Major Shelley & Mrs. Shelley: Small speaking roles, husband and wife from British service who bring Mary to England (may also double as "dreamers".) Mrs. Winthrop: (school mistress) rigid, regimented, "no nonsense" head mistress of a private school Neville wants to send Mary to (may double as a "dreamer.") (The following appear as ghosts and in flashbacks. All have strong solo singing lines and must be able to hold harmony) Rose Lennox: (25-35, mezzo) Mary's haughty, pretty and self-centered mother. Albert Lennox: (30-45, baritone/tenor) Mary's loving father. Alice: (any age) Rose's friend in India Claire: (any age) Rose's friend in India Lt. Wright: (any age) Serves with Albert in India Lt. Shaw: (any age) Serves with Albert in India Ayah: (18+, mezzo) Marys' nanny in India of East Indian decent. Fond of Mary. Fakir: (18+, high tenor) Mary's butler in India of East Indian decent. Mysterious, protective and fond of Mary. Major Holmes: (any age) Serves with Albert in India
